Europa Worldwide Group, the UK’s largest privately-owned logistics provider, has announced a partnership with Pledge, the leading greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management platform for logistics. This marks the next step in Europa’s efforts to reduce GHG emissions in its supply chain.
Sustainability in supply chains and logistics is constantly under scrutiny, with 11 percent of emissions globally attributed to freight transport, warehousing, and ports.
Additionally, updated Sustainability Disclosure Requirements and Climate-related Financial Disclosure regulations continue to put pressure on UK companies to start reporting on their emissions and decarbonising operations.
The partnership with Pledge emphasises Europa’s next step to future-proof its operations for customers. By leveraging Pledge’s technology and expertise, Europa’s customers will be able to better manage their GHG emissions.
Pledge’s platform will allow customers to track, measure, report, and reduce their carbon footprint, offsetting residual emissions using verified carbon removal and offsetting projects. The platform is accredited by the Smart Freight Centre for its adherence to the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) framework, which forms the basis for recent ISO 14083 standards for quantifying and reporting GHG emissions.
Tom Jenkins, Central Services Director at Europa Worldwide Group, commented: “With increasing regulations and an ethical obligation to understand more about their environmental impact, we wanted to provide our customers with a better way to measure and report their carbon emissions.
“Pledge’s platform is an ideal solution for us because it allows us to meet the demands of our customers and enable them to take action. Their carbon removals and offsetting marketplace is exclusively for verified and vetted projects, meaning that residual GHG emissions, which are offset or removed by Europa’s customers, are fully transparent, trusted, and will help them achieve disclosure requirements. We are keen to see where the partnership with Pledge takes us and are excited to see the difference it makes for our customers.”
Pledge Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Co-Founder, David de Picciotto, said: “Europa Worldwide Group is one of the largest independent logistics operators in the UK, and we’re thrilled it has chosen Pledge to support its customers on their sustainability journeys.
“The partnership proves that enterprise logistics companies are taking note of customer requirements to report emissions and decarbonise operations. Europa has taken the first step in becoming a leader in this space and we’re excited to watch the partnership grow, with the meaningful reductions in supply chain emissions that it will bring”.
