• Reported by the Financial Times, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is said to have told members of Parliament that he has always opposed plans to construct the third runway at Heathrow Airport.

The Financial Times have reported that United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham has privately told members of Parliament that ‘has always been opposed’ to plans to construct a third runway at London Heathrow Airport (LHR).

This news comes as executives at Heathrow are said to be acutely aware that the Prime Minister has so far not commented publicly on his opinion of expansion at the major UK hub.

Other Government officials are said to have played down the story, by reaffirming Burnham remains ‘open minded’ and is equally said to be awaiting the consultation of the Transport Select Committee before making any policy decisions.

The debate over construction of the runway has now spanned three decades with LHR no further in gaining confirmation in terms of its planned expanision.
