DHL Express Estonia and Tallinna Lennujaam have signed a 15-year cooperation agreement, on the basis of which a 7,260 m2 logistics complex with a fully automated efficient sorting system will be completed by the end of 2025 in the southern area of Tallinn Airport. The project is part of the airport’s Airport City International Business Campus.
The new cargo terminal will enable the handling of larger volumes and a faster cargo transport service. Fully automated technology enables DHL Express Estonia to better manage its growing international network. “DHL Express’s current terminal is too cramped for us and no longer meets the needs and expectations for handling increased cargo volumes. The new cargo terminal at Tallinn Airport gives us the opportunity to introduce the most modern technology and provide our customers with an even better quality service,” explains DHL Express CEO Kristina Laaneots.
The building of the logistics complex is one stage in the development of the southern area of Tallinn Airport and the Airport City Business Campus, with the aim to improve the air cargo and aircraft maintenance infrastructure and increase the non-aviation income needed for the development of air traffic. “We are glad that DHL Express Estonia’s large logistics complex will be built on the south of the runway. Our long cooperation with DHL, and similar values, helped us reach an agreement in which we are creating something extraordinary in Estonia, and we are very happy about that,” said Riivo Tuvike, Chairman of the board of AS Tallinna Lennujaam.
Located on the southern side of Airport City, this complex provides a new, modern environment for aviation-related companies. It takes into account the needs of businesses that have to be close to the runway. The principles of sustainability and sustainable development are being followed. When choosing partners, their values and actions to reduce environmental impact are considered important. 3 million euros has already been invested in creating this new business environment, and more than 30 million euros will be invested in the coming years.
Airport City is a business district of Tallinn airport and a gateway for international business. Airport City develops and manages all business premises and new Tallinn Airport developments around the runway.
