As customer expectations around shipment visibility, data and communication continue to increase at a rapid rate, KRL Logistics is working with long-term technology partner Cen Global to unlock further capability from its CargoWise platform.
Having used CargoWise for more than 15 years, KRL is continuing to develop how it uses the platform across its international freight operations, with Cen Global providing specialist guidance as a CargoWise Platinum Partner.
Current projects include helping KRL transition from its existing warehouse management system to CargoWise’s integrated warehouse module, while also configuring the platform to introduce additional checks and workflows that improve data accuracy, strengthen compliance and reduce the need for manual quality control.
Established more than 30 years ago, KRL Logistics provides tailored air, sea and road freight solutions for customers across the UK and internationally.
The business operates from eight UK locations, alongside offices in Ireland, China and Hong Kong, supporting customers with global supply chain requirements.
As KRL has continued to grow through both organic expansion and acquisition, CargoWise has become increasingly central to its operations, with the platform now supporting around 90% of the company’s day-to-day activities.
For Peter Phythian, Managing Director at KRL Logistics, maximising the value of existing technology will be essential for freight forwarders looking to improve efficiency while meeting changing customer expectations – most notably during a time when customers are demanding greater transparency and real-time visibility throughout the movement of goods.
Peter said: “We moved to CargoWise around 15 years ago because we recognised we needed a global platform that could support the way our business was growing. It’s an incredibly capable system, but like any technology, its value comes from how well you use it.
“Customer expectations have changed significantly over the years. Today, businesses of all sizes expect the same levels of visibility and communication that consumers experience when ordering online. You can order something as simple as a coat hanger and follow every stage of its journey, yet historically you could import millions of pounds worth of machinery from overseas and have very little visibility once it left port. That’s something CargoWise helps address, enabling freight forwarders to deliver the visibility customers increasingly expect.
“Working with Cen Global allows us to continually improve how we use CargoWise. They help us understand what the platform can do, identify opportunities to improve our processes and make sure we are getting the maximum value from the technology we already have in place.”
A key focus of the ongoing work recently has been improving data quality and operational consistency within CargoWise. By introducing additional checks and making better use of the platform’s functionality, KRL can reduce the amount of manual checking required by its quality control team, allowing colleagues to eventually be redeployed and focus on other areas of the business.
Having worked together for more than a decade, Cen Global has become a trusted technology partner for KRL, helping the business make the most of CargoWise as its operations have grown and changed.
For Steve Cross, Managing Director at Cen Global, freight forwarding is entering a new age where the differentiator will not be the technology itself, but how effectively businesses can integrate it into their day-to-day processes.
Steve Cross, Managing Director at Cen Global, said: “Platforms such as CargoWise provides freight forwarders with a huge amount of functionality, but the real value now comes from understanding how to apply that technology effectively.
“Our role is to work alongside businesses like KRL, understand their processes and help them identify where CargoWise can deliver real improvements. It’s about making technology work harder for the business as customer expectations and operational demands continue to change.
“As CargoWise continues to evolve, businesses need to understand how new capabilities can be applied in a way that works for their operation. Having that knowledge and support helps ensure technology solves real business challenges rather than creating more complexity, because if systems aren’t properly aligned with the way a business works, they can quickly become a burden rather than a benefit.”
