- Alha Group announced its selection as the official cargo handling partner for Alaska Airlines’ new daily service between Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), which launched April 28.
- The new route is operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, offering significant belly cargo capacity to connect the Italian market directly with the Pacific Northwest.
This daily service represents a vital link for high-value exports, including aerospace components, technology, perishables, and pharmaceutical products.
To support this expansion, Alha Group will provide comprehensive cargo handling services at its 24/7 Rome Fiumicino facility. Renowned for its operational excellence, Alha holds a full suite of industry certifications, including IATA CEIV Pharma, IATA CEIV Fresh, and TAPA.
A key highlight of this partnership is the deployment of Alha’s CoolBox technology—an innovative refrigerated dolly that functions as a mobile cold room on the tarmac. This ensures a seamless, temperature-controlled transit for sensitive goods between the warehouse and the aircraft, effectively eliminating thermal excursions and guaranteeing product integrity.
“We are honored to welcome Alaska Airlines to Rome Fiumicino,” said Lorenzo Schettini Gherardini – President and CEO at Alha Group. “Our high-quality infrastructure and specialized cool-chain solutions are perfectly aligned with Alaska Airlines’ commitment to reliability. We look forward to providing a premium cargo experience for their customers on this exciting new connection to Seattle.”
“Our partnership with Alha Group is a very natural fit, combining Alha’s cargo handling expertise with Alaska’s 94 years of experience providing reliable cargo service,” said Ian Morgan, vice president of Cargo at Alaska Airlines. “We can’t wait to offer new opportunities to customers at Rome Fiumicino, while connecting Italy to the Pacific Northwest and beyond.”
Alaska Airlines is the fifth largest airline in the United States and the 15th largest worldwide. With this collaboration, Alaska Airlines leverages Alha Group’s local expertise and cutting-edge logistics to ensure efficient, secure, and world-class cargo operations at Italy’s primary gateway.
