- A significant step forward has been taken in the development of Poland’s flagship transport hub.
- Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, the company delivering the ambitious Port Polska investment programme, has signed a major contract with Przedsiębiorstwo Spółdzielcze Budoprojekt to prepare the design documentation for the next phase of its Cargo Zone.
This marks the second of three key agreements set to shape the cargo infrastructure of the future airport – an integral part of one of Europe’s most closely watched transport projects.
Building a next-generation cargo hub
The Cargo 2 project will deliver a complex of facilities and supporting infrastructure tailored for global logistics integrators operating their own distribution networks. The aim is to create a highly efficient and secure environment for handling courier and express shipments, responding to rapidly growing global demand for airfreight. The contract is valued at PLN 8.9 million (gross).
At the heart of the project lies a clear objective: ensuring seamless, uninterrupted logistics processes while significantly reducing shipment handling times. This will be achieved by integrating warehousing, transhipment and sorting functions into a single, cohesive layout. Security is also a central priority. The design will incorporate strict separation and controlled access between airside and landside zones, safeguarding both cargo and personnel.
The integrator facilities will be strategically positioned at the interface between airside and landside operations. This will enable direct, rapid transfer of goods between air and ground transport – crucial for modern global supply chains.
These buildings will function as high-speed transfer hubs, minimising storage time while maximising throughput. In practical terms, parcels will move swiftly from lorries to aircraft—and back again – with minimal delay.
A dedicated sorting zone will form another key component, designed to quickly organise shipments according to their destination. Flexible spatial and technological solutions will allow the system to adapt to fluctuating cargo volumes, ensuring both efficiency and scalability.
The first contract for Cargo Zone design – covering Cargo 1 – was previously awarded to Cundall Polska.
Given the scale and complexity of the investment, the Cargo Zone design has been divided into three separate packages, each addressing different functional and spatial requirements across the airport site.
According to the current investment schedule, the Cargo Zone facilities are expected to be operational by the end of 2031.
This latest agreement highlights the accelerating pace of development at Centralny Port Komunikacyjny and reinforces its ambition to position Poland as a major player in global logistics and aviation.
