- RIX Riga Airport has marked a significant milestone in its international connectivity, celebrating 20 years of partnership with Turkish Airlines.
- The anniversary highlights two decades of sustained cooperation linking Latvia to global markets via Istanbul, reinforcing the airport’s role as a regional gateway.
The milestone was shared by Arturs Saveljevs, Chief Commercial Officer and Board Member at RIX Riga Airport, in a recent LinkedIn post, where he reflected on the long-standing relationship between the two organisations.

According to Saveljevs, the partnership has played a central role in connecting Latvia to the world through Istanbul, one of the most strategically positioned global hubs.
“Twenty years of connecting Latvia to the world through Istanbul. Twenty years of trust, reliability, and shared commitment to great passenger experience – even through all the ups and downs our industry has faced.”
The Riga–Istanbul route has not only supported passenger flows but also underpinned cargo connectivity, enabling access to Turkish Airlines’ extensive global network.
The anniversary was celebrated with a series of on-site activities at Riga Airport, including a traditional water salute for the arriving aircraft—an aviation gesture typically reserved for special occasions. The event also featured a cultural performance by Latvian dance group “Dzirnas” and hospitality for passengers and guests, underscoring the importance of the milestone.
Saveljevs expressed appreciation for the Turkish Airlines team, describing the carrier as a “strong and trusted partner” over the years.
