American Airlines has resumed flights after a “technical issue” saw the US Federal Aviation Administration request a ground stop for all its flights.
“A vendor technology issue briefly affected flights this morning. That issue has been resolved and flights have resumed. We sincerely apologise to our customers for the inconvenience this morning. It’s all hands on deck as our team is working diligently to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible,” American Airlines said in a statement.
The incident comes months after a global IT crash impacted major airlines across the US. The failure, which also hit banks and emergency services, as caused by a fault from Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity firm.
That issue resulted in more than 42,000 flights being delayed and over 4,700 cancelled worldwide.
